About Us

Commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers are one of the most important assets in the trucking industry, as 70 percent of all freight hauled throughout the United States is by truck drivers. Our goal is to provide you with health and wellness information targeted towards CMV drivers’ unique needs. We encourage you to explore the information within the Trucking Along resources, to interact with other drivers on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and to share CMV-specific health related information. Our hope is that you will find this site, and the opportunities for discussion with others that it fosters, a useful resource for your health-related needs.

The site was developed by the Division of Freight, Transit, & Heavy Vehicle Safety at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) with initial support from the National Surface Transportation Safety Center for Excellence. The content found within this site is edited by members of VTTI’s Advancement, Partnerships, & Outreach team. VTTI conducts research to save lives, save time, save money, and protect the environment. Researchers and students from multiple fields are developing the techniques and technologies to solve transportation challenges from vehicular, driver, infrastructure, and environmental perspectives. One of seven elite research institutes created by Virginia Tech to answer national challenges, VTTI has effected significant change in public policies for driver, passenger, and pedestrian safety and has advanced the design of vehicles and infrastructure to increase safety and reduce environmental impact.
